About ENVFAB
Established in 1993, ENVFAB is a trusted steel fabrication contractor and a market leader in architectural and miscellaneous metalwork. From our head office in Dromore we deliver complex packages across the UK and Ireland for tier-one contractors including Graham, Kier, Farrans, Balfour Beatty, Sisk, VINCI, Costain and Bouygues.
Our work spans architectural metalwork (staircases, balustrades, balconies, terraces and railings) access and miscellaneous metalwork such as platforms, walkways, flooring and handrailing for major construction projects.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Estimator to join our commercial team. You will take ownership of enquiries from receipt through to tender submission, producing accurate, competitive and commercially sound bids for fabrication and installation packages.
This is a visible role with real influence. You will work directly with our design, production and contracts teams, and you will be a first point of contact for main contractor clients during the tender process.
Key Responsibilities
- Review incoming tender enquiries, drawings, specifications and schedules to establish scope, exclusions and risk.
- Carry out accurate material take-offs from architectural and structural drawings for steel, stainless steel, aluminium and associated components.
- Price fabrication hours, materials, finishes (galvanising, powder coating, painting), fixings, transport, site installation, access and preliminaries.
- Obtain and appraise quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, negotiating rates to secure best value.
- Prepare and submit clear, well-presented tender documents, bills of quantities and cost breakdowns within client deadlines.
- Identify value engineering and alternative design opportunities that reduce cost without compromising quality or compliance.
- Following up with clients and recording outcomes.
- Attend pre- and post-tender meetings and mid-tender interviews with main contractors, both remotely and on site where required.
- Hand over won projects to the contracts and commercial teams with a full cost model and clear handover notes.
- Support post-tender queries, variations and re-measures as required.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of our estimating rates, benchmarks and processes.
Essential Criteria
- Minimum 3 years’ estimating experience within steel fabrication, architectural metalwork or a closely related construction discipline.
- Proven ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings, specifications and schedules.
- Strong numerical and analytical ability, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Confident user of Microsoft Excel and standard MS Office packages.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to deal directly with tier-one main contractors.
- Ability to manage multiple live tenders and work to firm deadlines without loss of accuracy.
- Full, valid driving licence.
- Eligible to work in the UK.
Desirable Criteria
- HNC/HND or degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil/Structural Engineering, Construction Management or similar.
- Experience tendering to tier-one contractors in the UK and Irish markets.
- Working knowledge of CAD or steel detailing software (AutoCAD, Tekla, SolidWorks or similar).
- Familiarity with estimating or ERP software and CRM systems.
- Understanding of relevant standards and requirements, including UKCA/CE marking, EN 1090 and NHSS.
- Experience across civils, water, rail or residential sectors.
Person Specification
You are commercially sharp and comfortable making judgement calls. You ask the right questions early rather than assuming, and you know that a well-qualified bid is worth more than a fast one. You take pride in accuracy, work well with production and design colleagues, and you want your work to be seen and used rather than filed away.
